| Accreditation Committee (CATS) |
In alignment with the Society's best interest, the Accreditation Committee will be conducting an initial pilot study for the first year of accreditation. It is acknowledged that there is high variability between simulation programs internationally and nationally. The committee has taken into account the uniqueness of simulation and realizes that certain decisions cannot be made to ensure success of the process without examining the field and analyzing the findings from a pilot study.
During the pilot survey process, the program will submit an online application. The applications will be collected and 20 programs will be randomly selected as a beta site. If selected, the beta sites will be notified and asked to submit a letter of intent along with the survey fee. After the letter of intent and fee is received by SSH, an on-site survey will be scheduled. This survey will be performed by a SSH Simulation Accreditation Review Team. The objective of the survey is not only to evaluate the survey process and the program, but to provide education and guidance that will help staff continue to improve the program's services. Organizations accredited during the pilot study will obtain an official accreditation.
The SSH Accreditation Committee is working diligently to complete an Accreditation Informational Guide. This guide will include the standards, ART-S rubric, criteria, processes, pilot study information, worksheets, and FAQS; and will be published on the SSH website at www.ssih.org. The committee will call for applications upon posting of the Informational Guide and anticipate initiating the first pilot phase of accreditation in October 2009.
