SSH Journal News
Sim Journal

The first piece of big news is that Simulation in Healthcare (SIH) was recognized by in November, 2008 by the National Library of Medicine and accepted for indexing in MEDLINE®, the U.S. National Library of Medicine's premier bibliographic database (also known as Index Medicus). All papers that have appeared in the Journal since its inaugural issue in January, 2006 are now indexed and available for search on PubMed (www.pubmed.gov)

The next piece of big news is that Simulation in Healthcare plans to expand to six issues per year beginning in 2010. This means we will be able to publish accepted manuscripts faster, bringing important research results and resources to the simulation community for use in program design and implementation. Articles selected for an issue become available on-line immediately after the embargo date, making the on-line access that comes with membership even more valuable.

The new SIH homepage provided by the publisher, Wolters Kluewer/LLW, www.simulationinhealthcare.com, will also have some additional new features and an upgraded, user-friendly look and feel. Editor in Chief David Gaba will be selecting articles of note and Assistant Editor Andreas Meier will be identifying articles with specific content to place into “Collections.” As a user, you will also be able to place articles in your own “collection” for easy access. Accessing journal articles on-line also positively impacts the formula that the publisher uses to calculate royalty payments to the Society. So use it frequently!

Since Simulation in Healthcare was accepted for indexing in MEDLINE® we have seen an increase in submissions for consideration. BUT, perhaps not everyone knows about the indexing, and we do need more submissions in order to allow sufficient time for the authors to respond to the valuable constructive comments by reviewers and editors and to fill the pipeline with outstanding content for each of our issues (soon to be 6 per year). We ask our growing membership to consider Simulation in Healthcare as the primary scientific journal in which to publish their work. Please remind your colleagues that we are now indexed. And every time an SIH article is cited as a reference, it improves our impact factor, so please don't forget to cite any relevant paper from our own Journal!

The Editors are looking for review articles commentaries and may begin to request “commissioned reviews or commentaries” from known experts. We also have the capability of publishing videos as Web Addenda to accepted manuscripts. A video by itself is unlikely to be a sufficient scholarly contribution for publication, but the opportunity for using video to accompany a case scenario, technical report, or empirical investigation manuscript is a great way to further the impact of a contribution.

The Journal is always interested in inviting new reviewers to assist in evaluating submissions. There are instructions for reviewers on-line and also mentoring for new reviewers may be available. If you are interested in becoming involved at this level, please send a copy of your CV to the Editorial Office (sihjournal@ssih.org).

Simulation in Healthcare is YOUR journal. Support it by submitting manuscripts, being a reviewer, and using published articles as references. Thank you.

David Gaba, Editor in Chief
Beverlee Anderson, Managing Editor
