Under the leadership of Interim Chair Lisa Sinz, the Committee is continuing to develop DRAFT certification elements and measurement criteria for certifying instructors who use simulation as a teaching method in healthcare. The intent is to develop 2 levels of measurement criteria: Competent and Expert levels. In addition, progress is being made on developing DRAFT processes for certifying/re-certifying applicants. Processes will be finalized following a full draft of certification elements, criteria, and measurement criteria.
The Certification Committee will be developing other areas for certification such as simulator technician and simulation coordinator following the pilot phase for Certification of Educators.
A survey on certification was distributed by the Committee to obtain input from interested individuals/organizations. Findings included: 94% of respondents were interest in certification through SSH; 96% were interest in certification as educators with 57% preferring a 3-5 year time interval for certification and 65% indicating portfolio review as the preferred mechanism for evaluation.
Please plan on attending the Committee’s presentation on certification during IMSH for more information. Your input is critical to the success of this project.
