Greetings from the Executive Director’s office! Well, 2010 is stacking up to be as eventful a year as was 2009. We have been working over the past year to put a firm staff foundation under the SSH so that we can support the growth and services provided to our members.

Committee News

On April 1st, the SSH Committees gained their own Staff Voice- me! My name is Lori Upperman and I am the Committee Liaison for SSH. My position, while sometimes hectic, has proven to be quite rewarding. I am here to assist all of our committees with the great work they are doing. My primary duties are to attend meetings, take minutes, and manage online communication for the committees. Additionally, I have spent time learning about the organization by attending courses at my local simulation center in Pittsburgh. I have also attended 3 conferences, helping to gain new members. I have had the opportunity to meet many wonderful, dedicated volunteers. Everyday I am learning more about Simulation and SSH. I hope that, with my assistance, the hardworking committees of SSH will have the ability to achieve new levels of success.

My first project was to work with all of Committee Chairs to prepare their budgets for their next fiscal year. What a way to jump into the pool feet first! This year is going to be a rewarding one with many accomplishments from all of the committees. I don’t have room to write about everything that is going on. However, I would like to mention a few projects that demonstrate the tremendous work that lies ahead. The Research Committee is busy planning the State of the Science Summit that will take place before IMSH 2011. The Membership Committee is working on a new marketing plan and the Website Task Force is working hard to make our website even better for our members. Public Affairs and Government Relations is working to help the membership reach out to their local Senators or Member of Congress to visit their hometown simulation centers. The Technology and Standards subcommittee is aggressively working toward the creation of a series of SSH guides/handbooks for a wide range of tasks associated with the creating, designing, equipping, maintaining, managing, operating and evaluating healthcare training and education simulation centers.

The committees are also working to keep their websites on ssih.org current so that everyone can read about the great work that they are doing.

As you can see, it’s going to be a spectacular year for the committees and I am very excited to be here to assist them.
