Dear Colleagues, here is a short update from your sister-society in European – SESAM.

These days we prepare for our 16th Annual Meeting, this year hosted in Groningen, The Netherlands, June 16th – 18th . Theme this year is “Linking high tech to high touch” www.sesam-2010.ws. Already mark your calendar for the next year's meeting. SESAM 2012 will be in Grenada, Spain. The dates will be released soon.

Being founded in 1994 in Copenhagen, Denmark, SESAM today is a lively and multi professional society. Our Mission is to encourage and support the use of simulation in medicine for the purpose of training and research. We are not affiliated to any medical or other specialty. Members are physicians and nurses from several specialties, technicians, engineers, psychologists, physicists, biologists, etc. SESAM members are international - the largest part is based in Europe, but simulation enthusiasts from all around the world attend the Annual Meeting and are members.

In addition to the ordinary high level of activities and developments around medical simulation, SESAM experience a growing number of meetings for different professions, nations or special interest groups. These networks both strengthen our society, raise new and important questions and work towards practical solutions.

SESAM and the SSH have traditionally a collaboration, noted in a formal collaboration agreement and lived in joined projects. Last year, for example, the SSH co-sponsored the first European/Latin-American Meeting on Health Care Simulation and Patient Safety in Coimbra, Portugal - organized by SESAM and the Latin American Simulation Society (ALASIC).

With the diversity of its members SESAM represents the diversity in the approaches of using simulation for different goals and in its different forms. Reflecting on the differences and similarities in the approaches in and beyond the SESAM community helps in identifying and refining best practices.
